Genomics Laboratory Coordinator Position

The Genomics Laboratory Coordinator (GLC) operates and helps maintain sophisticated research equipment that produces cutting edge genome-scale data. The GLC advises the IBEST Genomics Resources Core (GRC) Genomics Lab Services Manager, GRC Bioinformatics Scientist(s), and principle investigators in the development and execution of research initiatives that exploit next generation technologies in studies of genetics, genomics, metagenomics, metatranscriptomics, targeted sequencing, genotyping and related efforts. The GLC also assists the Genomics Lab Services Manager/Supervisor and Bioinformatics Scientist(s) in providing quotes, performing billings, tracking expenses, and maintaining an inventory of supplies and consumables. This position trains undergraduate and graduate students, laboratory technicians and Post-Doctoral fellows on the correct and effective use of GRC genomic laboratory User Core equipment. The GLC provides excellent customer service, through consultation with investigators on aspects of experimental design, sample quality control and data acquisition and established contacts with technology vendors and field application specialists and maintains ongoing relationships where appropriate.
Required Qualifications:
• 2 or more years of experience working in microbiology/molecular biology research and analysis laboratories;
• Experience managing multiple complex projects with competing deadlines;
• Experience applying specialized molecular biology techniques and troubleshooting samples and protocols that are both laboratory experiment and equipment related;
• Possess strong critical thinking skills;
• Experience editing and writing business correspondence and technical documents using proper grammar and punctuation as demonstrated in application materials;
• Experience using computer software applications for word processing, email communication and data organization.
