April 4, 2025

Barrie Robison, director of the Institute for Interdisciplinary Data Sciences (IIDS), discusses the potential of AI and current AI projects happening here at the University of Idaho in the latest letter from the President.

The letter discusses the recently awarded $4.5 million NSF GRANTED project that is leveraging AI to improve research administration processes. IIDS is working with principal investigator Sarah Martonick, director of the Office of Sponsored Programs, to develop AI tools to reduce repetitive processes, increase accuracy and improve turn around time.

The IIDS faculty fellows program is also highlighted. The second cohort of U of I researchers from wide-ranging disciplines are completing projects this semester. The ORED/IIDS graduate student data science interns are also working diligently on multiple AI projects across campus.
